The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed former NY Ranger tough guy Colton Orr to a 4 year, $4 million dollar contract. The cap hit will be $1 million dollars a season, and they immediately become “tougher” up front.
I’ve also managed to hit my 10% target in free agent predictions so anything else from here on out is gravy. In other news, the Leafs are no longer in the running for the Sedin twins who elected to stay in Vancouver by signing 5 year contracts with no movement clauses that will pay them an average of $6.1 million dollars a season. Mattias Ohlund has signed a 7 year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning worth $26.25 million, for a cap hit of $3.75 million per season. Johnny Oduya resigned with the Devils last night, and Craig Anderson signed on with Colorado, who also resigned Peter Budaj, presumably taking themselves out of the running for Jonas Gustavsson, thus increasing the chances that the Leafs will sign the Swedish netminder. Ty Conklin landed in St. Louis, while Marion Hossa and Tomas Kopecky both went to the Chicago Blackhawks. Mike Knuble has gone from Philadelphia to Washington, so the Flyers don’t have that to worry about anymore, and tough guy Donald Brashear will replace Orr on Broadway, moving from the Capitals to the Rangers. The Leafs are still in the running for 8 of the 10 (if you count the Sedin twins as 1 free agent combined) unrestricted free agents I listed yesterday, and they’ve landed Colton Orr already, so we’ll see how things go from here. No news yet on Francois Beauchemin, Samuel Pahlsson, Martin Havlat, Travis Moen, Mike Grier, Ian Laperriere, Ruslan Fedotenko, Mike Rupp, Joel Ward, or Vern Fiddler. I suppose this also means the Leafs might be looking towards signing Mike Cammalleri now that the Sedin twins are off the market… I’m not horribly opposed to the idea, but I think he’s a bit undersized and is unlikely to duplicate his numbers from last season without an Iginla type player to play with. Stay tuned Leafs fans. Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 11 of 14 } { Next Page } |
